Native doctors under the Odinala Orumba South umbrella have sworn to ostracize members engaging in criminal or unethical activities.

The oath-taking ceremony took place at the Izo Mmili Shrine in Umunze, Orumba South Local Government Area, on Wednesday.

Christian Umeh, Chairman of Odinala Orumba South, explained that the move aims to promote ethical standards among practitioners and expel those aiding criminal activities.

“We embarked on this oath-taking measure to reaffirm our commitment to ethical practices and weed out members involved in illicit activities,” Umeh said.

Shedrack Azubuike, Chairman of Orumba South LG, represented by King Nwabueze, commended the initiative, aligning it with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s vision for a secure and prosperous Anambra.

Meanwhile, Don Onyenji, Anambra State Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment, and Tourism, clarified that the state government supports traditional medicine practitioners while targeting fake native doctors aiding criminal activities.

Onyenji emphasized that Soludo advocates for Igbo culture and traditions, seeking to eradicate fake practitioners who aid and abet crime.

The state government has established Agụnaechemba, a security outfit, to tackle native doctors involved in criminal activities, such as preparing charms for kidnappers and ritualists.

One of the native doctors, John Ahamkonye, backed the oath-taking, citing concerns about fake practitioners infiltrating the community.
