NMA Salutes Umeakuewulu’s CMD COOUTH Achievements, Praises Soludo for Choosing Excellence

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Federal Capital Territory (FCT),Chapter, has described the contributions of the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH), Amaku, Awka, Anambra State,Dr. Maureen Uche Umeakuewulu, to the health sector as highly impactful.
The Abuja NMA made the commendation through its Chairman, Dr. George Ebong, when the executive of the chapter paid a courtesy visit to the COOUTH CMD.
The visit provided an opportunity for what could aptly be described as a warm reunion, as the delegation celebrated Dr. Umeakuewulu’s appointment and acknowledged the confidence reposed in her by the Anambra State Government.
Led by Dr. Ebong, the delegation expressed delight at reconnecting with “their very own,” describing Dr. Umeakuewulu as a shining star whose contributions to the association and the medical profession have been remarkable and impactful.
Ebong particularly appreciated the Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo for appointing one of their own to lead the tertiary health institution.
He commended the Governor for entrusting Dr. Umeakuewulu with the leadership of COOUTH and expressed confidence that her administration would leave a remarkable and enduring mark in the history of the hospital, especially as its first female Chief Medical Director.
He also praised Dr. Umeakuewulu’s commitment, energy and vigour in leading the institution, noting that her leadership had continued to demonstrate a clear determination to advance the hospital’s capacity to provide quality healthcare services.
Responding, Dr. Umeakuewulu warmly welcomed the delegation on behalf of the hospital management and expressed profound appreciation to His Excellency, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo for the confidence reposed in her through her appointment.
She also commended the Governor’s work in Anambra State, particularly his Vision 2070, which she noted provides a strategic framework for transforming key sectors of the state and positioning Anambra for sustainable development.
She highlighted the Governor’s focus on strengthening the health sector as an important component of that broader development agenda.
The CMD expressed particular gratitude to the Governor for the fully equipped Solution Trauma Centre, describing the facility as a significant boost to COOUTH’s capacity to provide timely, effective and quality emergency and trauma care to patients.
She further highlighted some of the key milestones recorded under her administration, including the transition to electronic health records, the ongoing renovation and facelift of hospital facilities, the installation of oxygen piping at the Accident and Emergency Department, improvements in emergency care services, and the successful preparations for the hospital’s recent Paediatrics accreditation exercise.
According to her, the progress recorded at COOUTH has been made possible by the dedication and commitment of the hospital’s workforce, strategic leadership and the sustained support of the Anambra State Government.
Dr. Umeakuewulu reaffirmed her commitment to building on the gains already recorded, improving the overall patient experience and ensuring that COOUTH continues to provide efficient, compassionate and quality healthcare services in line with its mandate of “Service for Health.”
The high point of the visit was a tour of the hospital’s facilities and ongoing projects.
During the tour, the delegation inspected some of the recent developments and infrastructural improvements across the hospital, providing an opportunity to assess first-hand the transformation taking place under the current administration.
