In what could become the biggest urban shake-up in Anambra’s recent history, Chief Emmanuel Chibuzor Nwachukwu, the newly elected APGA senatorial candidate for the August 16 Anambra-South bye-election, has revealed that a staggering 6,000 houses may be demolished to pave way for a state-wide rail transport revolution.
Speaking to journalists at the Aguata Local Government Headquarters in Ekwulobia, a beaming Nwachukwu did not mince words: hesaid Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo is serious about delivering a functional rail system—and warned that thousands of homes may be casualties of the ambition.
“The governor has repeatedly said that to realise the dream of a rail transport system in Anambra, around 6,000 houses might be affected. That’s the price for true development,” he declared.
Nwachukwu, who had previously made an unsuccessful bid for the red chamber, said divine grace has now opened the way for him to represent Anambra-South—and he is ready to work.
The APGA hopeful showered praise on Governor Soludo, calling him a visionary leader whose achievements inspired him to run for Senate.
According to him, no former governor has matched Soludo’s track record.
“Over 550 kilometres of roads have already been constructed under his watch. I doubt any of his predecessors came close,” he said.
He added that thanks to the ongoing dualization projects across the state, commuters will soon be able to drive from Nnewi to Awka in under 30 minutes.
He said one of his top legislative goals will be to push for the Eastern rail corridor, noting that while the Western line is underway, the East continues to lag behind.
“Without a working rail system, our roads will always suffer. I’m going to the Senate to help change that,” he promised.
