A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Sir Onyebuchi Okpala, popularly known as Ike Agulu, has declared his support for the presidential candidate of the New Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Peter Obi, ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Okpala, who is the founder and leader of the Ike Agulu Political Movement, made his position known at the weekend while addressing women at the Agulu Anglican Women’s Annual August Meeting held at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Agulu, Anambra State.
The APC chieftain urged the women to support Obi, whom he described as the best candidate on the 2027 presidential ballot.
He said his support for Obi was based on the candidate’s perceived leadership qualities and capacity to address Nigeria’s economic and developmental challenges, rather than political party affiliation.
Okpala stressed that although he was not a member of Obi’s political party, he would not allow partisan considerations to prevent him from supporting what he considered the best interest of the country.
According to him, Obi has the capacity to move Nigeria from a consumption-driven economy to a production-based one, implement favourable economic policies and create better opportunities for Nigerian youths and future generations.
“Party does not matter when the future of Nigeria is at stake,” he said.
He announced that the Ike Agulu Political Movement would soon commence a door-to-door grassroots mobilisation campaign for Obi across the Southeast and other parts of the country.
Okpala urged the women and other Nigerians to look beyond party labels and assess the competence, character and capacity of the various presidential contenders before making their choices in 2027.
He said the movement would use its grassroots structure to mobilise support for Obi, adding that the objective was to contribute to the emergence of what it considered a competent leadership for Nigeria.
