Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State has launched ‘operation debe Oyi ocha’, a scheme geared towards a clean environment all over the local government area.
Oraegbunam Pajimo, Chief Press Secretary to the Mayor of Oyi Local Government Area, told THE RAZOR that: “The first batch of Waste Buckets for ‘Operation Debe Oyi Ocha’, have arrived.
He said: “Anybody who has been following Oyi under the Golden Mayor even during the Transition era, will agree with that he doesn’t joke with environmental friendliness. Mr Mayor’s second name is neatness/cleanliness.
“Under his watch, the heaps of wastes along Nkwelle Ezunaka bye-pass to 3-3, the ones along the both sides of Enugu-Onitsha expressway from Obinetiti Awkuzu to Toll gate Ogbunike, those along Ezikwo-Otoko Awkuzu by University road, the ones along Ifite Nteje through Airport road among others, have all disappeared.
“Also worthy of note is the evacuation of the 15yrs aged long dump site at Otoko Awkuzu before the boundary between Awkuzu & Igbariam; he didn’t stop there for he also built two refuse bays at the spot (though the people of Otoko Awkuzu couldn’t protect such rare infrastructure).
“After desilting & opening up the age-long blocked underground tunnel in front of Awkuzu SARS, Mr Mayor went a step further to evacuate the age-long refuse dump site beside the fence of Awkuzu SARS.
“He didn’t end there, he turned that particular place into a garden thereby brought aesthetic nature to the place.
“Mr Mayor is always in touch with the three Waste Managers in Oyi, making sure that they are at the field evacuating wastes. His commitment in keeping Oyi clean has earned Oyi the cleanest Local Government Area in Anambra State, a position we maintained for two years and still counting.”
Oraegbunam added that procurement of the wastes buckets will solve the problem of indiscriminate dumping of wastes by the people until Waste Vendors come for evacuation, ease evacuation and help us maintain the lead as the cleanest.
As a ‘Fine Boy’,(on a lighter note), Hon Dr Emma Nweke has vowed to maintain Oyi as a ‘Fine Local Government Area’.
