The Anambra State government has promised to hunt down the gunmen who attacked the convoy of the Chief of Staff to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Dr Ben Nwankwo on Sunday night.
Nwankwo, a former federal lawmaker who was recently confirmed as the aide of the governor was attacked by unidentified gunmen, who killed his personal friend and two security people attached to him.
Though police had promised to ensure that the gunmen were tracked down, Anambra State government in a press release by its Commissioner for Information and Value Reorientation, Anambra State Government, Law Mefor, PhD said no stone will be left unturned.
The release stated that: “This was more than an attack on one person. It was an attack on the peace, security, and democratic order of our state, as well as the Government and people of Anambra.
“Sadly, four people lost their lives and deserve justice and Anambra State Government sends its deepest condolences to the families of those who died and share in their grief.
“This isolated incident after more than one year of peace and security in the state will not affect our determination to remove all forms of crime from Anambra.
“The police and other security agencies are working to find and to bring everyone involved in this evil act to justice.
“Anambra State government is shocked by the attack on the convoy of the chief of staff to the governor. The incident happened on Sunday night, May 31st, 2026, between 8:00pm and 9:00 pm at the Orumba North–Awka South borders, while he returning from an official assignment,” the release stated
