Anambra police arrest 16-year old suspected for armed robbery, recover fake pistol

Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command attached to ‘B’ Division, have arrested a 16 years old boy, Udochukwu Nwankwo over involvement in armed robbery.

Spokesperson for Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga said the boy was arrested with a silver metal fabricated on the shape of a pistol, which is suspected to be used for carrying out armed robbery operations.

Ikenga said the arrest was made at Amansea in Awka North Local Government Area, in the early hours of 2nd September 2026, during a security patrol.

The press release issued by the command stated that: “The operatives also recovered a shiny metallic lighter designed in the semblance of a pistol, which the suspect allegedly used to threaten and dispossess the victim of her valuables.

“Preliminary information revealed that the suspect, alongside two other accomplices who are currently at large, allegedly attacked a guest at a hotel in the area and snatched her mobile phone and other personal belongings.

“During interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to using the recovered object to threaten victims during the robbery.”

He said the command has intensified investigation and ongoing efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects. He added that the stolen phone and other valuables have been recovered.
