The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the final list of presidential candidates and their running mates for the January 2027 general elections, with former Anambra State Governor, Peter Gregory Obi, officially appearing on the ballot as the presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC).
Obi is listed alongside his running mate, Musa Mohammed Rabiu Kwankwaso, in the final presidential candidate list released by the commission on Saturday in Abuja.
The list, signed by the Secretary to the Commission, Rose Oriaran-Anthony, contains the presidential candidates sponsored by 18 political parties.
The publication effectively confirms Obi’s candidacy in the 2027 presidential election, alongside other candidates including President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Sunday Chibuzo Okereke of the Labour Party, Omoyele Sowore of the African Action Congress (AAC), Sandy Ojang Onor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), and Adewole Ebenezer Adebayo of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
INEC listed 16 male and two female presidential candidates. The two female candidates are Ada Elizabeth Fredrick Okwori of the National Democratic Party (NDP) and Nkem Esther Okereke of the National Rescue Movement (NRM).
The commission also listed 14 male and four female vice-presidential candidates. The female running mates are Peace Egobia Ofordile of the Allied Peoples Party, Nafisat Usaku Abubakar of the Democratic Leadership Alliance, Hajja Bintu Konto of the Labour Party and Patience Ndidi Key of the Young Progressive Party.
