The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) senatorial candidate for Anambra Central, Chief Dozie Nwankwo, has pledged to ensure that every community in the district attracts at least one major project or programme annually through the national budget if elected.
Nwankwo made the promise during a strategic meeting with key stakeholders from the senatorial district at his campaign headquarters in Enugwu-Ukwu, Njikoka Local Government Area.
He said his approach to representation would be anchored on identifying the actual needs of communities and translating them into achievable projects and programmes, rather than making unrealistic campaign promises.
The former federal lawmaker explained that his existing relationships and political networks within the National Assembly would be deployed to attract the necessary support from his colleagues to secure the approval and execution of constituency projects.
According to him, communities, professional bodies and other interest groups would be encouraged to articulate their needs and submit them to his constituency office, which would serve as a compendium of demands to be presented at the Senate if he wins the election.
He urged stakeholders to ensure that such requests reflected the interests of all segments of society, irrespective of gender, age, educational background or social status.
Nwankwo, popularly known as Onyendozi, described inclusive representation as central to his legislative agenda, assuring that his constituency office would remain open round the clock to attend to the needs of constituents.
He urged the stakeholders, led by a university don, Prof. Onyi Oguno, to take his message to their respective communities, age grades, churches, schools, professional associations and other social groups.
The APGA candidate said voters should assess political candidates based on the credibility and practicability of their promises rather than campaign rhetoric.
He also recalled his previous interventions in the district, including annual free medical outreaches, youth and women empowerment programmes, scholarships and the distribution of vehicles, commuter buses, motorcycles, sewing machines and hairdressing and barbing equipment.
He said the interventions were part of his commitment to improving livelihoods and creating economic opportunities for residents.
Nwankwo consequently appealed to the stakeholders to mobilise voters across the district to support his senatorial ambition, promising to sustain and expand his interventions if elected for another four-year term.
The meeting also heard that the candidate was planning another major poverty alleviation programme before the end of 2026.
