The Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Chief Victor Umeh, has awarded a full academic scholarship to the son of the late General Manager of the Anambra State Signage and Advertisement Agency (ANSAA),
Hon. Chijioke Joseph Agbanyim.
Umeh announced the scholarship on Thursday when he visited the Agbanyim family at Ngo Umudunu Village, Awka-Etiti, in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, to condole with them over the death of their patriarch, who died at the age of 58.
The scholarship will cover the education of the deceased’s son, Master Chinedu Agbanyim, from Senior Secondary School 1 (SS1) through to the completion of his first degree.
Condoling with the family, Umeh described Agbanyim’s death as “very painful” and prayed for the repose of his soul.
He also prayed God to grant the family the strength to bear what he described as an irreparable loss.
Agbanyim was serving as the General Manager of ANSAA until his death.
The gesture is in line with Umeh’s longstanding involvement in educational sponsorship, a programme he began with his personal funds and has continued through the Senator Victor Umeh Education Foundation and his constituency initiatives.
Umeh began offering scholarships to brilliant but less-privileged students in 1999 after witnessing how financial difficulties prevented some academically promising children from pursuing higher education.
The programme had, as of January 2026, produced no fewer than 2,320 graduates, including medical doctors, pharmacists, lawyers, engineers and nurses.
His scholarship programme in Anambra Central has also expanded over the years. In 2018, during his first stint in the Senate, he sponsored 76 students from the seven local government areas of the senatorial district.
After returning to the Senate in 2023, he expanded the scheme to 223 beneficiaries and later increased the number to 326 students.
