In what may revolutionize community health services, a leading Senatorial Candidate for Anambra Central Zone, Hon Ferdinand Dozie Nwankwo, has disclosed plans to make community civic centres, not just venues for meetings, but centres equipped to effectively respond to emergencies and save lives.
Nwankwo, popularly known as Onyendozi, made this disclosure in a chat with newsmen, Wednesday, in Awka.
According to the one-time federal lawmaker, Nwankwo, who is running for Senate on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, said that community civic centres should go beyond just serving as venues for community meetings and public gatherings but also as emergency service centres equipped to respond effectively to emergencies and protect lives.
“We need to equip these centres to international standards, providing essential first-aid facilities, emergency medical equipment, fire safety systems, reliable communication tools, and trained personnel to respond promptly when emergencies arise.
“Our communities deserve modern, accessible, and well-equipped public facilities that promote safety, preparedness, and the protection of human lives,” Nwankwo explained.
According to him, civic centres should be more than buildings but should be a centre of safety, hope, and service to the people.
If actualized this idea may revolutionize community health, provide jobs and bring the provision of health to the doorsteps of the rural populace.
