A support group rooting for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu for a second term, Obidient General Worldwide Team has moved its mobile campaign to Banex Plaza in Abuja to mobilize votes for the president.
The group which is led by former supporter of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Mr Peter Obi, Hon Ikenna Azomchine who spoke at the rally told teeming traders who are mostly Igbo indigenes at the plaza that he was once a supporter of Peter Obi before he started seeing the works of the incumbent president, and the need to support his re-election.
He said: “Today is a special day, we are here to tell you the good news of the Tinubu administration and the good things the president is doing in Nigeria.
“For some of you who want to say you’re Obidient, I will tell you that nobody here was more Obidient than myself. In 2023, I was a supporter of Peter Obi, but what happened is that we can not keep wailing, we have to key into government. The agenda is that the president should have another four years and we will take it up from there.
“President Bola Tinubu has done well in Nigeria, is it the construction of roads, is it the NELFunds? Everything this administration is doing is being perfectly done, and I want to assure you that when he comes for a second term in 2027, you will see that his achievements would have gone round and also touched everyone. We charge you to vote for Tinubu in the next election and ensure that Nigeria continues to move ahead.”
The presence of the Azomchine-led group at the hugely populated plaza sparked excitement among traders who chanted the name ‘Obidient General’, a name Azomchine acquired in 2023 when he was a core supporter of the then Labour Party candidate, Mr Peter Obi.
Some of the traders who spoke to journalists at the rally ground acknowledged that truly, things may be tough, but they include some of the things Nigerians should endure before things start getting better.
They acknowledged that the foundation being set today by President Bola Tinubu will yield fruits for the country tomorrow.
