The recent stampedes at Christmas rice distribution centers in Abuja, Ibadan, and Okija, which resulted in the death of at least 60 Nigerians, have been described as “truly heartbreaking” and “most unfortunate” by Labour Party governorship aspirant, John Nwosu.

Nwosu, who is vying for the top seat in Anambra State in the 2025 governorship election, expressed his deep sorrow over the incidents, which he believes are a reflection of the severe hunger, deprivation, and poverty plaguing the nation.

According to Nwosu, the tragedies were avoidable if hunger was not imposed on Nigerians by the harsh economic policies of the present government.

He lamented that essential food commodities, which are basic and common in other parts of the world, have become luxury items in Nigeria due to corruption and bad economic policies.

Despite the tragedies, Nwosu commended the individuals and organizations that shared food with the poor and needy, describing their actions as a testament to the kindness and generosity of Nigerians.

He prayed for more blessings on them as they continue to give succor to the less privileged.

Nwosu urged the federal government to find urgent means to tackle the severe hunger and hardship faced by many Nigerians, emphasizing the need for a more compassionate and effective approach to addressing poverty and inequality.

His comments come as he campaigns on a platform of transforming Anambra State’s economy and improving the lives of its citizens, with a focus on security, healthcare, education, and job creation .
