Two former Commissioners of Police in Anambra State, Ikioye Orutugu and Nnaghe Obono Itam, have been promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs).
The two senior police officers were decorated with their new ranks on Tuesday at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
In a statement issued by the Anambra State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Command described the double promotion as a significant milestone, as both its serving Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, and his immediate predecessor, Nnaghe Obono Itam, attained the rank of AIG.
According to the statement, the simultaneous elevation of the two former Anambra police chiefs reflects the Nigeria Police Force’s recognition of exceptional leadership, professionalism, dedication to duty and outstanding public service.
The Command noted that during their respective tenures in Anambra, both officers provided strategic leadership, strengthened intelligence-led policing, deepened collaboration with critical stakeholders and enhanced public confidence in the Police, contributing significantly to the maintenance of peace and security in the state.
It added that the achievements recorded under their leadership reinforced the Force’s commitment to effective policing, community engagement and the protection of lives and property, making their promotion a fitting reward for merit, dedication and exemplary service.
The Anambra State Police Command described the promotions as a source of pride, not only for the two officers but also for the Command, whose commitment to professionalism, accountability and quality service delivery continues to earn national recognition.
The Command congratulated AIG Ikioye Orutugu and AIG Nnaghe Obono Itam on their well-deserved promotions and expressed confidence that their wealth of experience and leadership would continue to strengthen the Nigeria Police Force in their new responsibilities.
