APGA will bring back Obi, Chekwas, understudy Obidient philosophy – Nat’l chairman

Tony Okafor, Awka

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA),Sly Ezeokenwa has expressed optimism that the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) will return to APGA to realise his ambition.

Ezeokenwa also said the founder of APGA, Chief Chekwas Okorie, will rejoin the party in the spirit of the ongoing reconciliation in the party.

Recall that Obi was a pioneer governor of APGA in Anambra State where he served two terms totalling eight years before defecting to the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) and later the LP to become it presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections.

Similarly, Chekwas Okorie left APGA in controversial circumstances after serving the party as its pioneer national chairman.

But at a press conference at the APGA South-East zonal Secretariat in Awka, the Anambra State capital, the APGA National Chairman, Sly Ezeokenwa, said he was working to bring back the two pioneer leaders of the party.

He said the party had commenced reconciliation moves to settle such issues to reposition the party.

The APGA National Chairman said,“Peter Obi is going to come back to APGA because that is his home and that is the only vehicle that will take him to his destination ”

“He attended the APGA Institute of Good Governance of which I am a student now and I tell you he will return to the party.

“I’m also in touch with the founding National Chairman of APGA, Chief Chekwas Okorie. With the ongoing reconciliation the party will be able to win more states in the country”

“I am going to visit Chief Chekwas Okorie and in fact, I have spoken with him to come back to APGA because it is his home and a house he built from the foundation.

“He is like a father and he started this APGA and I told him that he cannot finish building a house and abandon it. Whatever might have been his reasons for leaving us, he will return to APGA and together we shall rebuild the party and win other states ”

He said those extolling Peter Obi in the Labour Party missed the target because, according to him, it was wrong to give Labour Party the glory in Peter Obi, who through APGA manifesto and ideology came to the limelight by his sterling performance as the governor of Anambra State.

Ezeokenwa said,“The whole frenzy of the Labour Party or the Obidient Movement is an accolade for the All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA and whatever achievements that he( Obi) recorded was because of the ideology and manifesto of APGA ”

“Labour Party cannot take the glory of APGA. If Labour Party wants to campaign for its party, it should talk about the former Ondo state governor, Mimiko and not Peter Obi who was a member of APGA; all those achievements he recorded were when he was in our party.”

The National Chairman maintained that he would run the party under five major agenda which he encapsulated as DRIVE viz: Discipline, rebranding, inclusiveness
visibility and expansion of the party.

He commended the immediate past National Chairman of APGA for his endeavour in expanding the territorial scope of the party beyond Anambra State, vowing to do more exploits to grow the party nationally through vibrant advocacy that would be propelled by youth massive involvement akin to the Obidient movement.
