Army Registers Huge Success in Fight Against UGM in Ukpor

The Nigerian Army working with other security agencies on Saturday morning registered huge success in the fight against criminals in Anambra State.

There have been alert of heavy shooting in Ukpor on Saturday morning, after joint security forces ambushed criminals popularly known as unknown gunmen in Ukpor.

Ukpor, a community in Nnewi South Local Government Area is also the headquarters, and has been a hotbed for criminal activities.

The local government secretariat in the community has been severally attacked and destroyed, while the criminals also habour a camp in a forest in the community, where they retire after their operations.

However, on Saturday morning, the the army leading a team of joint security forces stormed the den of the criminals, where they were also matched with fire power, while Indigenes of the area warned everyone on voice broadcast to steer clear as bullet were flying in the air.

THE RAZOR  NEWS gathered that major roads in the area were blocked very early on Saturday, while others deserted.

Many shops in the community failed to open today, as heavy gunshots were heard everywhere in the community.

According to a source in the area, the gunshots have been ongoing since morning, while the residents of the community are currently in detention in their homes amidst fear and tension. The source also revealed that the gunshots are oozing from the scenes of an ongoing clash between suspected gunmen and soldiers who engaged them in shootout.

It was gathered that the heavy shooting, which were accompanied with detonation sounds, are mostly heard around St. John’s Church Ukpor, Amadim village and few other parts of the community.

The source, who also recorded the sound of the gunshots as a confirmation, while also advising residents and denizens of the community to exert caution or possibly avoid the community and its roads for now, to avoid falling victim of stray bullets or other form of danger that may result from the shootouts.

When THE RAZOR NEWS reached a senior police officer in Anambra State for details of the shooting in the area, he stated that details were still sketchy.

Another police officer who also pleaded anonymity said the military registered a huge success against the gunmen. He said: “Soldiers registered success against them (criminals) today.

“They have been totally dislodged from their camp in Ukpor, and I have it on good authorities, that many of them were taken out. I will not tell you much, because I believe that after today, the Nigerian Army spokesperson will brief the press anoint the operation. But I can tell you that Anambra is winning the war against insecurity.”
