~ Charges Anambra communities to set up peace, conflict resolution c’ttee
Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU) has charged all communities in the state to immediately set up Peace and Conflict Resolution Committee, to resolve internal crisis.
The move is to stop indigenes of various communities from using police and court to settle disputes that can be easily arbitrated upon by the community.
THE RAZOR learnt that police in Anambra and event lawyers are growing fat on funds made from many wealthy indigenes of communities, who prefer to intimidate their neighbors, using police.
ASATU made the move during its monthly general meeting on Saturday, after the President General of Orifite moved the motion.
ASATU said: “The sole aim of this bill is to control the way our people rush to both police and court instead of using various traditional arbitrary channels of every Community.”
It said: “ASATU is serious about this bill as it took some hours of their time in today’s monthly meeting.
“ASATU shall be meeting with both the Commissioner of Police, AIG and IG respectively on the subject matter.”
A source in the meeting who briefed THE RAZOR said: “Millions of naira was raised through voluntary donations by most communities to make sure that the bill see the light of the day.
“PGs MUST have immunity inorder to concentrate on their job. If you arrest or Sue any PG, the entire ASATU will pounce on you.
“With this bill, no man or woman will arrest an indigene without using the local arbitration channels except on criminal cases which must be scrutinized and proved beyond every responsibly doubts otherwise you become a surjouner in you own tribe.
“Every community MUST submit names of the committee Chairman and Secretary to ASATU National Office on or before the next ASATU monthly general meeting,” he said.
