Anambra Guber: ‘Soludo’s Endorsement of Obiano, Questionable’

The

endorsement of Governor Willie  Obiano of Anambra State for a second term in office by former Central Bank Governor, Prof Charles Soludo during the weekend has been faulted.

Soludo had last weekend, while delivering the anniversary lecture to mark the third year in office of governor Obiano showered him with praises for his feat in the state, while also urging other aspirants to shelve their ambition as there was no vacancy in the seat.
But reacting to this, a governorship aspirant from the All Progressives Congress, APC, Engr Bart Nwibe said Soludo may have either been induced or speaking from point of ignorance.
While addressing journalists on Sunday, Nwibe said, “Soludo has a hidden agenda for making that call. It is either he is living under the illusion that Obiano will pass him governance after a second term, or he is not a democratic person.
“Everyone knows that after every four years, there is vacancy in every elected position. If he is not ready to vie, he should give way for interested people to contest for the position, and let Anambra people be the judge.
“He has made several mistakes in the past, and I hope this is not one of them.”
Speaking on his abilities, Nwibe, an engineer with business interest in oil and gas said, when elected governor, he hopes to ensure that the oil and gas sector of the state was functional.
“We hope to make the Anambra oil available in commercial quantity. We hope to transform the Orient Petroleum company into a world class one. That is my specialty, and I know I will do it. It doesn’t cost much, it only requires experience, which the present governor does not have.
“When we fix that, can you imagine the number if businesses that will come with it to the state? Our people will be better confident to bring their businesses back home, and in that way, we will restore it’s economy.”
Nwibe also picked holes in what Soludo described as sterling performance of governor Obiano, saying it is sheer falsehood to say that Obiano has attracted $5billion investment to the state.
“Do they know what $5billion is? Go and check, foreign direct investment in the entire country within this period Obiano mentioned, it is not up to that amount.  Anambra people are capable of many things, but lies should not be part of it. They must stop telling our people lies.
“On the three flyover bridges in Awka, I want to tell you people that is not the kind of bridge our people need now. We live in a modern era, and you can do a google search if you like, those bridges are the type  built in this 1950s,” he said.
