The Managing Director of Chisco Transport Company Limited, Chief Chidi Anyaegbu, has announced an endowment of N1 billion for building a structure that would house the newly established Department of Transportation and an auditorium at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam in Anambra State.
Anyaegbu inspected the site of the building on Tuesday in company of the management of his company and the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Kate Omenugha and indications are that construction would commence immediately.
The VC said that the National Universities Commission, NUC, has already approved the new department, adding that the first batch of students are currently being admitted.
In appreciation of Anyaegbu’s gesture, the university has set up Chidi Anyaegbu Lecture Series in the university which will kick off on Thursday this week.
Addressing journalists at the Igbariam campus of the university, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Kate Omenugha, said the governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Otti will deliver the lecture, while the former governor of Imo State, Chief Achike Udenwa, will be the chairman of the occasion.
The Vice Chancellor also said that the university has written a book in honour of Chief Anyaegbu, explaining that experts in the area of transportation from various institutions contributed in writing the book.
According to her, the aim of writing the book is to further immortalize a man who is called the godfather of transport business in Nigeria.
Omenugha said: “Chief Anyaegbu has a knack for mentorship and philanthropy. Here at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, we are tapping from the blessings of this great man.
“We appreciate what he is doing and it is something positive for the government of Anambra State because he is investing in the state. I am excited because this is part of the sustainability we are talking about.”
