The Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) in Anambra State, Nigeria reached a significant milestone on Monday, 23rd September 2024 at Kentucky, by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kentucky State University, USA.

This partnership signifies a crucial step towards fostering exchange programmes and research linkages between the two institutions. Dr. Koffi Akakpo, the 19th President of COOU, and Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, the Ag. Vice Chancellor, represented their respective institutions during the historic signing ceremony.

The MoU with Kentucky State University brings numerous benefits, including opportunities for exchange programmes in fields such as Agriculture, Nursing Sciences, Education, and Economics. Notably, a COOU staff member will have the chance to pursue a master’s programme in Soil Science starting in Spring 2025.

Under the leadership of Prof. Omenugha, COOU has been steadfast in its efforts to enhance international collaboration and visibility. The university’s strategic framework, known as “3Vs” – Values, Viability, and Visibility, is geared towards elevating its standing on the global stage. This has already resulted in fruitful collaborations with institutions in Europe and Asia, including the University of Economics and Innovation in Poland, Lincoln University in the United Kingdom, and Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University in China, as well as participation in the European Union Erasmus+ Programme.

These initiatives are a testament to COOU’s commitment to raising the bar in research, education, and ethical practices, positioning the university as a leading institution not just in Nigeria and Africa, but on the global stage.
