For 72 hours, the former Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, has battled without success to beat the hurdle of the bail conditions of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to regain his freedom.
The Network gathered authoritatively that the anti graft agency is asking the former Governor to provide two directors in the Federal Civil service as sureties to sign his bail bond.
According to an authoritative source in the commission, Obiano was given a second bail condition to provide two citizens with landed property in the high brow areas of Abuja.
The areas listed are Maitama, Asokoro and Wuse 2.
The source said, “The Commission is willing to release him to go. There is nothing special about his detention.
“The ball is in the court of the former Governor. The moment he perfects his bail conditions, he would be released.
He was asked to produce two directors to sign his bail bond or two persons with landed property in Maitama, Asikoro and Wuse 2 all in Abuja.
“Unfortunately, he has not been able to
Produce them.”
The Network gathered that the former Governor and his men are making contacts in Abuja and Anambra to meet the bail conditions.
Obiano who had been under EFCC’s watch list was arrested on March 17 at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos on his way to Houston, Texas.
The former Governor was arrested on his last day in office, the very day he handed over political power to Prof. Charles Soludo.
The Commission which moved him to Abuja the following day has been interrogating him for allegedly diversion N42 billion Anambra State funds.
A top source at the commission said that the funds involved N37 billion Security Vote and N5 billion Sure- P funds.
