Ensure Full Implementation of Anti-open Grazing Law, CLO Urges Anambra Govt
The Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO), Anambra chapter has urged the Anambra State government to ensure full implementation of the newly signed anti-open grazing law in the state.
The rights group in a statement signed by the chairman and secretary of the CLO in the state, Mr Vincent Ezekwueme and Mr Chidi Mba commended Governor Willie Obiano for signing into law the bill, which was recently passed by the state house of assembly.
In a statement titled: ‘Live and Let Live’, the group described the law as the most life-saving and people-oriented law enacted by the Anambra State House of Assembly.
It however charged that: “The law should not be rhetoric or political statement, rather the government and security agencies should ensure strict and judicious implementation of the law.”
The group further extolled the assembly for the courage and wisdom in living up to the yearnings and aspirations of Anambra people, while adding that religious implementation of the law will improve peaceful and harmonious coexistence of farmers-herders and entire residents of the state.
Part of the statement read: “It will also protects lives, livestock, crops, cattle; it will improve food security, production and distribution of crops.
“It is unfortunate and despicable that the law is observed in breach, as funds extorted go into private pockets, thereby depriving the government of revenue.
“Government should spare no efforts at rescuing the state from the despicable and pathetic situation by persecuting the perpetrators to act as a deterrent to others,’’ the statement said.
