The Oye family has announced plans for a grand celebration in honour of Dr. Victor Ikechukwu Oye, fondly known as Ozonkpu, as he marks his 70th birthday in a ceremony scheduled to hold on July 18, 2026, in Amawbia, Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
According to a formal invitation released by the family, the milestone celebration is themed “Celebrating 70 Years of Grace, Legacy & Impact” and is expected to bring together family members, political associates, friends, clergy, and well-wishers from across the country.
The event will commence with a Holy Mass at the St. Matthew Catholic Church by 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception at the Banquet Hall, Light House, Government House Awka, scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
Described in the invitation as a devoted husband, father of five, grandfather, and mentor to many, Dr. Oye is being celebrated for what the family called a “life of purpose, service, faith, and impact.”
The statement further highlighted his longstanding contributions to community development and public service.
A former National Chairman of APGA, Dr. Oye is also recognised for his role in shaping political discourse in Anambra State and beyond.
The family noted that his leadership style has been marked by vision, courage and an unwavering commitment to public service.
Beyond politics, the celebrant is being honoured for his philanthropic engagements, mentorship of younger generations and dedication to faith-based values, which the family says have defined his personal and public life over the past seven decades.
The celebration, which will feature a royal and elegant dress code, is expected to attract a large turnout of dignitaries, political leaders, community stakeholders and admirers from within and outside Anambra State.
Guests have been requested to confirm attendance to aid proper planning.
The family added that the occasion is not only a birthday celebration but also a “curated visual biography” of Dr. Oye’s life journey, showcasing moments of early beginnings, family life, public service and enduring legacy.
Meanwhile, the management and staff of The Razor Newspaper have joined the people of Amawbia, Anambra State and Nigerians from all walks of life in celebrating the elder statesman on the landmark occasion of his 70th birthday.
In a goodwill message, the newspaper described Dr. Oye, a recipient of The Razor Newspaper Award in 2023, as a distinguished political administrator whose contributions to party management and democratic development have earned him recognition beyond Nigeria’s borders.
The newspaper further hailed him as “a bastion of political party administration in Sub-Saharan Africa,” noting that his years of leadership, consensus-building and commitment to democratic ideals have left an enduring imprint on Nigeria’s political landscape.
As preparations intensify for the celebration, tributes continue to pour in for the Amawbia-born politician, with admirers describing him as a man whose legacy is measured not only by the offices he has held, but also by the many lives he has touched through service, leadership and mentorship.
