Five NYSC members die in Anambra

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Anambra State on Thursday said it lost five corps members in the ending service year state.

State Coordinator, Mrs Yetunde Baderinwa disclosed this during the passing out ceremony of the 2021 Batch “A” stream 1 corps members.

She said 15 of the corps member would have their service year extended over various disciplinary cases.

She said, “Thirteen corps members would be remobilized for absconding from service while two have been given extension of service for absenting themselves from their duty posts.

“On a sad note, we lost 5 fellow compatriots, who began the journey with you but died in active service.

“They are as follows: Onoh Bless An/21A/2153, Owoh Mercy An/21A/3270, Mbam Timothy An/21A/1653, Ozor Anthony An/21A/2098 and-Tabele Mercy An/21A/3378.”

While charging corps members to shun fraudulent acts, get- rich- quick schemes and other forms of corruption, Baderinwa urged them to bring to bear lessons learnt during the service year for self actualization.

She added, “As you step into the world, you must realize that your certificate of National Servce is not a guarantee that jobs will be running into your waitng arms.

“I therefore charge you to bring to bear all the lessons learnt during the service year, especially the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship training as a reliable means to self actualization.

“To those of you who have found a home here in Anambra, I challenge you to leverage on the entrepreneurial spirit of Ndi Anambra.

“But for those wishing to proceed home or to other locations in search of other opportunities, best wishes and journey mercies to you. In Anambra though, “we don’t say goodbye.”

In his speech, State Governor, Willie Obiano congratulated the corps members for successful service, urging them to remain good ambassadors of the scheme and Nigeria.

Obiano, represented by Commissioner for Youths Empowerment and Creative Economy, Prof Theresa Obiekezie expressed confidence that the lessons learned during the period would be relevant in their future endeavors.
