HISTORY: Today in 1994, Ojukwu and Bianca got Married

History

In 1989, several months after winning the Nigerian version of Miss Intercontinental, Bianca Onoh opted to resign rather than end it, after it emerged that she was in a relationship with Biafran leader and Ikemba Nnewi, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, a political associate of her father who was 34 years her senior – one tabloid falsely reported that she was pregnant.

Although the couple never confirmed or denied the affair until their wedding in 1994, pageant organisers Silverbird were furious as MBGN holders are restrained from having public love affairs, she decided to relinquish her crown despite not acknowledging or debunking her affair with Ojuwku at the time.

The first runner-up, Regina Askia, assumed her position and completed Bianca’s tenure as Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria.

The main concern for the young beauty queen was completing her education as a Law student.

Ojukwu was madly in love with her.

In 1994, having finally obtained her degree, she married the warlord in a lavish wedding ceremony held in Abuja, enjoying 17 years of blissful marriage before his death in 2011.
