ICPC opens anti-corruption, transparency unit in Unizik

Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has inaugurated an Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) in Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.

The inauguration which held at the Council Chambers of the university witnessed the administering of oath of office on the committee members.

The committee led by Dr. Stephen Ufoaroh has as part of its terms of reference; to ensure transparency and accountability in line with global best practices in the daily administrative affairs of every department, faculties, units and directorates in the institution.

The committee was also charged with the job of sensitizing staff members of the institution on global best practices.

Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Charles Esimone who spoke during the inauguration said: “The essence of the inauguration is to ensure a seamless and smooth operational services by members of staff of the institution in their respective directorates, units, departments and faculties.

“This administration is hinged of administrative reforms, academic excellence, innovation, research and community service.

“Members of this committee were carefully selected based on their previous records in administration and track record in service. I congratulate you all and urged you to put in your best towards service delivery to the institution and the education sector at large.

Besides the chairman, Ufoaroh, other members of the committee included: Prof. Uche Eunice Ekpunobi (Dept. Of Pure and Industrial Chemistry), Dr. Chinyere Esimone (Music Department), Rev. Fr. Dr. I. Onwuatuegwu (Philosophy Department), Dr. Godwin Obasikene (Medicine and Surgery Department).

Others are; Prof. Machebe Victor Ozioko (Faculty of Law), Mr. Paul Ifezue (Director, Internal Audit), Dr. Jude Okoye (Faculty of Law), Rev. Sr. Patricia Oranefo (Accountancy Department) while Mr. Edward Kalu Okereke of the Personnel Unit is acting as the Secretary of the committee.
