Insecurity: Anambra guber candidates barred from public outings

Governorship candidates in Anambra State have been advised to shun public appearances.

One of the candidates who spoke with our correspondent in confidence said,” Some of us were billed for manifesto debate with a professional body in the state today but we were stopped from attending by a security report.

“We were warned by a top security outfit in the state that our security could not be guaranteed because of the prevailing circumstances in the state.

“My brother, life they say has no duplicate. I have suspended every outdoor campaigns for now and I’m sure most of my colleagues had done same.

Remember that it was just two days ago, that the late, Prof Dora Akunyili’s husband was killed.
Another candidate, who begged not be named said,” I now move around without security personnel. If you read the story of Akunyili’s attack, you would see that his killers were angered on sighting the police orderly in his car. So, that should serve as a lesson to some of us.

Meanwhile, there were fresh attacks on Thursday in various places of the state, despite heavy security presence in major towns of the state.
At Nnobi, a car belonging to member of the House of Representatives for Nnewi North/South/ Ekwusigo , Chris Azubogu was attacked and his driver killed.

His Media side, Emeka Onyia who confirmed the incident to our correspondent said the lawmaker was not in the car.

” Yes, his driver was killed but Honourable Azubogu wasn’t in the car. In fact Hon Chris Azubogu is not in the state,” Onyia said

Similarly, a police station at Ajali in the Orumba North Local Government Area of the state was attacked and burnt.

It was gathered that six policemen were killed in the incident.

When contacted on the telephone , the Commissioner of Police in the state, Tony Olofu confirmed the incidents.

He said, “Wait for detail statement from the PPRO. As of now I can confirm to you that two policemen were killed in the incident.
