Jubilation in Anambra as Ngige distributes assorted food items

There was wild jubilation in Anambra State on Tuesday as the Minister of Labour and employment, Dr Chris Ngige, distributed assorted food items to the people of the area.

The event took place at St Mary’s Church field, Alor in the Idemili South Local Government Area of the state.

Our correspondent gathered the distribution of the food items followed Federal Government’s directive to Ministers and others to cushion the effects of economic downturn on the masses across the country.

The items distributed to the masses included 5000 bags of rice, 5000 bags of garri, several cartons of tomatoes and tubers of yams.

The food items were given to the elderlies, widows and the All Progressives Congress (APC) faithful from the 21 Local Government Areas of the State.

The elderlies, especially the octogenarians also received health benefits on the occasion.

Speaking, Ngige said the war between Ukraine and Russia had put the world, including Nigeria , in an economic dilemma and that the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration would not keep quiet for the masses to die of hunger and starvation.

He said, ” With this, we are detaching hunger in the land. I have told the widows to form cooperatives so that we can assist them to grow their businesses, and make them entrepreneurs.

The Minister said there was a health scheme he put up in his Alor community to take care of and maintain the elderlies and indigent people in the area.

Some of the beneficiaries of the Federal Government’s largesse described the Buhari Government as a working progress, calling on successive governments to build on the successes of the incumbent administration.

Our correspondent observed that Ngige had since he became Minister in the Buhari Government had been frequently giving succour to the needy in the state and building the APC as a political party in the state to make it formidable.

Participants on the occasion were asked to obtain their Permanent Voter’s Cards in readiness for this year’s general elections.
