NANS hails outgoing Unizik VC, calls on FG to follow extant laws in appointing successor

The National Association of Nigerian Students( NANS), Anambra State axis has passed a vote of confidence in the Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, Prof Charles Esimone.

The students therefore called on the Federal Government to ensure that the laid down rules and regulations regarding succession of the office of the VC in the absence of a Governing Council for the university is followed strictly.

The students stated this in a communique issued after a joint campus council election of NANS, Anambra State axis.

The communique was signed by the Chairman and secretary Communique Drafting Committee of the association, Comrades Santos Ikechukwu, and Tochukwu Ekuma, respectively.

The association hailed Esimone for his achievements in Unizik during his five-year tenure as VC of the university.

Our correspondent gathered that the tenure of Prof Esimone as the Vice Chancellor of the university will end on June 4,2024.

The Students communique read in part, “NANS commends and appreciates the Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University for his tremendous achievements in office as VC of UNIZIK, and the special recognition and attention he has given to the NANS throughout his time in office.

“On this note, it is the desire of NANS that the next VC wil continue this relationship with the NANS.

“In this regard, we call on the government to ensure that the laid down rules and regulations regarding succession of the office of the VC in the event of absence of a Governing Council for the University is followed strictly in line with the statute and extant law that established the university and in strict compliance with the university autonomy law.

The Association also commended the Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo for his giant strides.

“Our thanks to the government of Anambra state, led by the Executive Governor of State, Prof. Charles Chukwuemeka Soludo for his developmental plans and processes going on in every part of the state.

“We say thank you for having Anambra people at heart; we wil always be there for you and the state in general, and promised to stand by you on your developmental plans,” the students stated.
