The coordinator of a political support group, Obidient General Worldwide Team, Mr Ikenna Azomchine has stated that Igbo people of the South Eastern region of Nigeria alienating themselves from the administration of President Bola Tinubu is detrimental to them.
Azomchine who spoke in Nibo, Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State during a rally to round off his tour of the South East to mobilize for votes for Tinubu stated that the surest way for Igbo people to have a taste of the presidency is not to fight Tinubu’s government but to key in and give him support.
The politician said he was in opposition for years and criticized most of Tinubu’s policies, but he is happy that today, the president has paid heed to most of the criticisms and has made a u-turn in his policies.
He said Ndigbo are now gaining appointments in the administration as well as infrastructural projects in the region, and that the people of the South East should support his reelection as a sure way of paving their way to presidency in the near future.
He also insisted that Igbo alone does not have the capacity to make any of their sons president, so they need to align with other zones of the country to be able to achieve the dream.
He told his members: “I have been in opposition politics for years. We criticized the policies of President Bola Tinubu when we thought he was not doing well. But we are happy that today, most of the things we criticized the president about, he has started doing them.
“For example, Ndigbo have the highest appointments in the presidency today than other administrations before it. You can go and verify. Today too, we are benefiting a lot of infrastructural projects in Igboland.
“I want to urge our people to come together and support President Tinubu. We cannot gain anything by isolating ourselves from from the mainstream politics. We as Igbo do not have the capacity to make ourselves president, but if we key into the administration of this government, we will be able to play in mainstream politics and also get our chance.
“Right now, I believe we must have our turn someday, but the more we isolate ourselves, the farther we are making that dream come to pass. So as a right thinking politician, I have decided to mobilize for President Tinubu and this tour of the South East is for us to sensitize our people well enough and achieve that aim of being integrated into the Nigeria project.”
Azomchine commenced the South East tour last week, shortly after completing a tour of the North Central Zone, where he visited communities in Benue, Plateau and other states.
In the South East, he mostly visited tertiary institutions, mobilizing young people for Tinubu. He rounded off the tour in Nibo, his hometown in Awka South Local Government Area at the weekend.
