Foremost philanthropist and the Senatorial Candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, for Anambra Central, Hon Ferdinand Dozie Nwankwo, has described elders as invaluable assets in any society who deserve more than they are getting.

Nwankwo, who made this known while commemorating the World Elders Day celebrated recently, said the need to care for the elderly in society informed why he targeted the elderly under his Ferdinand Dozie Nwankwo Foundation years ago.

“I have since recognized the important role of elders in our society. In fact, any society without elders will lose not only a vital part of its history, but will lose the benefit of good counsel,” Nwankwo observed, adding that through his Foundation, many elders in his constituency and beyond enjoyed free medical services.

He said that caring for the elderly remained one of his priorities which he would take up to another notch as a Senator.

“These are people who gave us life, nurtured us and made us who we are today. It is our collective responsibility to show them love and sense of belonging at this stage of their lives,” Nwankwo stated.

He commended the wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr Mrs Nonye Soludo, for hosting some of the state’s elders to mark their day, noting that it was in line with APGA’s mantra of being their brother’s keeper.

The Senatorial hopeful called for policies that would adequately cater for the elderly, as well as setting up homes for them, especially those without people to care for them. This, he said, was the practice in developed countries.

Nwankwo wished the state’s elders good health and longevity.
