The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced that the name of its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has been successfully uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) candidate nomination portal following the filing of an appeal and an application for a stay of execution of the recent Federal High Court judgment in Lokoja.
The party’s National Leader,Seriake Dickson
disclosed this in a statement on Monday, assuring members and supporters that the NDC remains a duly registered political party and is continuing the submission of its candidates in line with the INEC timetable.
According to Dickson, INEC granted the party access to its candidate nomination portal after the NDC filed its appeal and motion for a stay of execution of the Lokoja court judgment.
He stated that his own name and that of the party’s presidential candidate, , had already been uploaded to the commission’s portal, while the details of the party’s vice-presidential candidate would be uploaded upon the completion of the necessary documentation.
Dickson explained that the party had concluded its primary elections nationwide under the supervision and monitoring of INEC, stressing that only the administrative process of uploading the names of candidates remained.
He urged party members not to panic, noting that the INEC timetable provides ample time for the submission of all candidates. According to him, National Assembly candidates are to be uploaded before the July 11 deadline, while governorship and State House of Assembly candidates must be submitted before July 17.
The former Bayelsa State governor congratulated all NDC candidates and party members, while assuring unsuccessful aspirants that reconciliation efforts had commenced to unite the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Dickson also reaffirmed the party’s confidence in the judiciary to determine the pending appeal in accordance with the law.
He commended INEC for what he described as its professionalism in granting the party access to the nomination portal despite the ongoing legal proceedings.
The NDC had earlier challenged the Lokoja Federal High Court judgment by filing an appeal and an application for a stay of execution, maintaining that the ruling does not automatically invalidate the party’s registration or its nomination process pending the determination of the appeal.
