DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, who confirmed the kidnap while speaking with journalists, said the lawmaker’s black Sienna bus, which he was driving before the incident, had been recovered.
Ikenga said the command had launched a manhunt for the kidnappers with the aim of rescuing him.
Hon. Dr Okechukwu Okoye was kidnapped this evening, Sunday, 15th May, 2022.
Popularly called ‘Okey Di Okay’, Hon. Dr. Okoye represents Aguata II in the state house of assembly, and is from Isuofia, the hometown of Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo. He is also the Chairman of the House Committee on Information.
It is not known if Hon. Dr. Okoye was targeted, or if this was a random attack.
A member of the state House of Assembly, and Chief whip of the house, Hon Pete Ibida told THE RAZOR NEWS that the kidnap of Okechukwu has not been confirmed by the house.
“I only read of it in the news the same way that you did. We have no role to play in the kidnap. We have not discussed it at the House of Assembly level.”
