The Anambra State Government has warned holders of old Certificates of Occupancy (C of O) to complete the recertification of their land titles before December 31, 2026, saying transactions on properties whose documents are not updated will no longer be processed thereafter.
The state Ministry of Lands, in a public notice dated September 1, 2026, said the old system of land documentation would be shut down indefinitely on December 31.
The ministry said the measure was aimed at ensuring that property records were properly updated and integrated into the Anambra Geographic Information System (ANAMGIS) database.
According to the notice, holders of old C of Os who fail to recertify their documents before the deadline will be unable to conduct transactions involving their properties at the Ministry of Lands.
Such transactions, it said, include mortgages, deeds of assignment, obtaining certified true copies (CTC) and registration of powers of attorney, among others.
The ministry urged affected property owners to submit their applications without delay, stressing that the recertification exercise was still ongoing.
It warned that after the December 31 deadline, only individuals whose property records had been updated and integrated into the new system would be permitted to conduct transactions at the Ministry of Lands.
The notice, signed by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mrs. Nkeiru Mokwe, on behalf of the Commissioner, advised titleholders to take advantage of the ongoing exercise to avoid what it described as future complications.
The development is expected to affect a large number of property owners across the state whose titles remain under the old land documentation system.
