News

The Senator representing Anambra South Senatorial District, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah has accused the state governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo of attempting to overrun Nnewi last Saturday, during the House of Representatives rerun election.

Candidates of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), Hon Chinwe Nnabuife and Hon Peter Uzokwe, who were supported by Senator Ubah had won the elections in Orumba North and South Federal constituency and Nnewi North, Nnewi South, Ekwusigo Federal Constituency.

Ubah who spoke to journalists on Mondaysaid Soludo sent seven of his commissioners, hoping to sway victory for the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), but because of the love if the people for him, they voted his political proteges from YPP.

He said, ” I was in my house here in Nnewi. I didn’t step out from my house during the Saturday February 3 rerun polls, but I used my influence and strategies to win the two seats of House of Representatives for my former party, Young Progressives Party( YPP). That’s a litmus test for 2025 Governorship election in Anambra State.

“The state government sent down seven Commissioners and other Government officials to Nnewi for that election for APGA. Their purpose was to intimidate us but we floored them to make a statement that by the grace of God we are in charge of Nnewi and Anambra South Senatorial District in general,” Ubah said.

YPP candidates had in the last weekend election had won their APGA and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates.

It was believed that the victory was despite attempts by the state governor to sway both seats to his party, APGA.
