Flood has reportedly submerged Anaku, the Local Government Headquarters of Ayamelum local Government Area, and its environs.
Motorists, residents and visitors to the area were also reportedly trapped as the flood submerged the Onitsha/Otuocha/Ayamelum road that leads to the Area.
Those trapped had called on the state government and other good-spirited individuals to come to their rescue by sending boats to them for evacuation as the only means left to save their lives.
Mr. Paul Nwauba, one of those trapped, said that the flood was an annual occurance that needed permanent solution, even as he called for boats to be sent to those trapped to save their lives.
“We have been experiencing such but it is worse now as it has submerged the Onitsha/Ayamelum road, thereby trapping those at the local Government Area, especially Anaku. The Ezu river has been submerged too, and the river covered by flood, thereby making it impassable for travellers and residents,” he stated.
It was gathered that vehicles, especially commercial ones that were in Anaku park, were trapped also for days and till now no hope of removing their vehicles from the flood that has submerged the park.
Mr. John Anibogu, from Anaku, said that farmers have lost their farm produce to the rampaging flood and called on the State Government to send boats to ferry the trapped people out of the place.
Meanwhile residents of Odekpe, Ogbaru Local Government Area, Anambra State, have cried to the high Heaven, over the devastating flood that has sacked most of the residents.
According to a resident, comrade Peter Okala, “I swimm to and from my house on daily basis with my family. This is not a good omen to the people in this place. A permanent solution must be put in place or residents will continue to suffer each year.”
