Security operatives have gunned down one member of an armed robbery gang who specialize in robbing unsuspecting persons living in Ifite, while going to church early on Sundays.

It was gathered that the incident happened on Sunday morning around 6am as some residents of Ifite in Awka were going for Sunday Mass.

One of the victim (name withheld) who works with a popular joint in Awka who was robbed of her phone and other items said the gang members were three, but only one of them was gunned down.

She said: “I’m coming back from work, and one other girl who was going to church just came out of their lodge gate, and the three men approached me and started asking what I had in my bag.

“The girl who was going to church saw them and flung her bag into the bush. They searched my bag and saw the phone and money and they took it. Then the other girl started running into her lodge, while me I ran towards the bush.”

She said while one of the robbers pursued her, the other two chased after the other girl, and while she ran into the bush and hid, one of the boys was coming towards her section, apparently trying to find her.

She said while this was going on, a local security man emerged and shot at the robber, killing him, while the other two fled.

THE RAZOR gathered that the corpse of the robber was still lying in the area as at the time of filing this report.
