Drama as Ekwunife, Ngige clash in church

It was a mild drama as the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and All Progressives Congress, APC senatorial candidates for Anambra central zone, Mrs. Uche Ekwunife and Senator Chris Ngige clashed during Mothers’ Day celebration in an Anglican church.
The two senatorial contenders separately came to St. Silas Anglican Church, Enekwasumpu to felicitate with the women as part of this year’s Anglican Church Mothering Sunday celebration across the globe.
Mrs. Ekwunife had earlier arrived the church alongside her supporters amidst jubilation as members of the church in jubilation rose in celebration to receive the senatorial candidate of the PDP.
Shortly after her arrival, the APC candidate, Senator Chris Ngige came into the same church amidst jubilation.
The two political gladiators showed uncommon characters during the church service as both embraced each other warmly to the bewilderment of the congregation who apparently thought there was no love lost between the duo especially as they are contesting against each other in the senatorial election.
In their separate speeches, Mrs. Ekwunife commended the women for their roles in shaping the society, reminding them that the family as the nucleus of the society is at the mercy of the women and mothers.
Mrs. Ekwunife further eulogized the women for the role in the sustenance of democracy through their resilience in voting which she said has remained the strength of Nigeria’s growing democracy since 1999.
She said her visit was to felicitate with the Anglican women, adding “I am an Anglican by birth and a Catholic by marriage, so I am one of you. I want to join you today to celebrate this important Mothers’ Day because whenever we celebrate the mothers, we celebrate our children and celebrate our husbands. In line with this year’s topic for International Women’s Day celebration, Lets Make It Happen, it is important that we the women remember our own and vote for me your fellow woman and I will remember you because only woman can knows the problems and needs of fellow women”
She urged them to also vote massively for President Goodluuck Jonathan whom she described as a man with passion for the development of Nigeria and a man with meek heart towards women.
In his own speech, Senator Ngige reminded the people of Enekwasumpu of his promises during 2011 general election which according to him have been fulfilled and urged them to vote for him again in the 28th March general election.
He promised to do more for the people of the area if they vote for him again to represent them at the Senate and said his visit to the church was also to felicitate with the women and join them as they marked the Mothering Sunday for the year 2015.
Responding on behalf of the congregation, the Vicar in charge of St Silas Anglican Church, Enekwasumpu, Venerable Chukwudi Okafor described both Ekwunife and Ngige as perfect match for the contest for the soul of Anambra central senatorial zone and prayed God to produce the best among them.
