Vandal capitalizing on power outage electrocuted as EEDC restores power

A suspected electric power installation vandal has been electrocuted in Amawbia, Awka South Local Government Area.

THE RAZOR gathered that the man and his gang had approached an electric power transformer to steal some expensive wires, when he was electrocuted, leading his gang to abandon him and flee.

There had been power outage in Awka and its environs for close to a week, as a result of rain storm, which damaged some facilities.

However, on Saturday and Sunday, Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), restored power in most towns of the area.

Sources said residents of Amawbia woke up on Monday to find the vandal stiff, and stuck to electric power installation, after having been electrocuted.

Residents suspected that he may have taken advantage of the long absence of electric power, to storm the installation with his gang, to steal some cables, but was unlucky as EEDC suddenly restored power.

“The unidentified man had come with his gang members to vandalize electrical wire installations at a transformer Infront of a hotel in Amawbia.

“The gang members had capitalized on the five days power outage that rocked major cities in Anambra recently.

“But luck ran out for one of them who was disconnecting the wires when the Enugu Electrical Distribution Center EEDC restored power at about 12 midnight and the man was electrocuted.

“The gang members noticing that their colleague has been electrocuted took off with the wires they had already vandalized abandoning him.”

Police Public Relations Officer for Anambra State Police command, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga is yet to confirm the incident as at the time of filing this report.
