The Razor Newspaper Unveils Hardcopy, Awards Obi, Umeh, Oye, Oduah

The management of The Razor Newspaper, a local publication, which reports exclusively Anambra news has unveiled its hardcopy edition to educate, entertain and inform readers in Anambra State.

The unveiling of the newspaper happened at the weekend, at the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ secretariat in Awka.

Mr Tony Okafor, the Editor of the newspaper on Research and Evaluation, said after close to two years of publishing on the internet, the management of the newspaper decided to begin hardcopy publication to give readers something robust, and also feed the older generation that is more at home with hardcopy newspapers.

He said the newspaper also decided to award some Anambra indigenes who have done well in various areas, especially as the newspaper covers Anambra exclusively.

The presidential candidate of Labour Party, LP, Mr Peter Obi has at the event named as the most popular Nigerian personality in 2022.

Okafor said: “It is not in dispute, that Mr Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra State, and the presidential candidate of Labour Party is today the most popular Nigerian alive.

“We as a newspaper that exclusively publishes Anambra stories have decided that it is important that we honour our own. We are today awarding Mr Obi as the most popular Nigerian personality in 2022.”

The newspaper also honoured Chief Victor Umeh, former national chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA and the senatorial candidate of Labour Party in Anambra Central as the Most Vocal Voice in the South East, while Chief Victor Oye, the national chairman of APGA was awarded as the Bastion of Political Party Administration in Nigeria.

Senator representing Anambra North and senatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Princess Stella Oduah was also named Distinguished Philanthropist in 2022.

Obi, who was represented by his media assistant, Barr Val Obienyem praised the management of the newspaper for venturing into media business, especially ensuring full and dedicated reporting of Anambra State.

“I charge you to continue to serve humanity through the practice of your profession, but also bear in mind that you are in business, and media business involves money too.

“There is risk in the business you have chosen, and you must not back down, you must give your best to the society.

“Once you are doing well, you may be recruited to become a part to preach the things you previously stood for, but always remember that your integrity matters and you must not do anything that will injure it.

“The name you choose for the newspaper The Razor is symbolic. Razor cuts, but also shaves and can not hide truth and that is what I charge the people in the company to stand for.”

Representatives of Senator Umeh and Chief Oye, Chief Barr Nnamdi Anagor and Hon ThankGod Anagor who also received the awards on their behalf praised the newspaper’s management for their courage in going into hardcopy publications, while also praising their choice of persons for awards.

The event was also attended by the Anambra State campaign coordinator of PDP Presidential Campaign Council, Prof Obiora Okonkwo, the Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Engr Francisca Nwafulugo, who were represented by Mr Chibuike Uloka and Dr Onyeka Uwakwe among several others.
