Umeh Delivers Urology Centre at UNIZIK Neni Campus, Targets Specialist Healthcare, Medical Tourism

Senator Victor Umeh, representing Anambra Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has completed the construction of a specialised urology centre at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) campus in Neni, Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The facility, which comprises eight rooms and six toilets, is designed to provide dedicated space for urological consultation, diagnosis and treatment, as well as training for medical students.

The project is expected to strengthen specialist healthcare delivery at the Neni campus and in its host community, while reducing the burden on existing health facilities and the need for patients to travel long distances in search of urological services.

With specialised equipment already installed at the centre, the facility is also expected to contribute to the growth of medical tourism in Anambra Central by attracting patients requiring urological services from within and outside the district.

The project represents another intervention by Umeh in the healthcare sector, which has remained a major component of his constituency development initiatives since his election to the Senate.

His constituency projects have also covered education, road infrastructure and rural electrification across Anambra Central.

The new urology centre is particularly significant because of the shortage of specialised medical facilities in many communities, where patients often have to travel to major urban hospitals for specialist consultations and treatment.

By providing a dedicated facility within the university environment, the project is expected to serve a dual purpose: improving access to healthcare for residents and supporting the practical training of students in the medical sciences.

Umeh’s interventions have also extended to human capital development.
On September 5, 2024, he awarded scholarships to six outstanding undergraduates from Neni Community to support their university education.

The beneficiaries included Chukwudeme Ukamaka Perpetua, a Banking and Finance student at UNIZIK; Mgbemena Chibuonu Favour, studying Anatomy at UNIZIK; Muokee Daniella Mmesoma, a Food Science and Technology student at UNIZIK; Okelom Chukwuma Christian, studying Computer Science at UNIZIK; Onuorah Noahlyne Chinenye, a Mass Communication student at UNIZIK; and Ubah Chisom Anastasia, a Medical Laboratory Technology student at SMLT Iyienu, Ogidi.

The completion of the urology centre adds to the senator’s growing portfolio of constituency projects aimed at addressing infrastructure and human-capital needs across Anambra Central.

For the people of Neni, the project represents a significant addition to local healthcare infrastructure and a potential new hub for specialist urological services.

“Ndi Neni now have a Urology Centre — a testament to what responsive representation can achieve,” the statement said.
