The Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Chief Victor Umeh and his Anambra North Senatorial District counterpart, Dr Tony Nwoye, all of the Labour Party( LP) have joined in paying last respect to the late former governor of the state, Dr. Chinwoke Mbadinuju.

In his tribute, Senator Umeh said “We have come to pay our last respect to His Excellency Dr. Mbadinuju Chinwoke Clement who was our governor between 1999 to 2023. Odera as he was fondly called was a very simple man, a simple character who wasn’t complicated.

“He tried his bit as Governor of Anambra State; doing a number of things. In governance, one cannot do everything at the same time. At least he left behind, things we are able to remember him for.

“He set up the Anambra State University, Uli which has now expanded to Igbariam and the University is one of the very strong institutions in Nigeria. It has now transformed to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University.

“We know him as somebody who wasn’t vindictive. He was not known as somebody who was pursuing people either for them to leave Anambra State or to annihilate people. He had a good mind.

“Because of his simple nature, a lot of people exploited him and abused him, but he remained calm. Even after he left office, he remained non-controversial.

“He was not somebody who would throw himself around to be noticed. Now that he has left us at the age of 78, and as the former governor of this State, we have come to pay our last respect to him.”

Senator Umeh prayed God to forgive the mistakes of the làte ex-governor and admit his soul into His kingdom where he would have eternal rest.

To those witnessing the ceremony and the entire people of Anambra State, Senator Umeh prayed God to grant them the type of spirit Mbadinuju had which he described as “A spirit that was not vindictive, adding, “So that we would be able to do our own modest best and answer our call at our own time.”

Similarly, the Senator representing Anambra North Senatorial District, Dr Tony Nwoye on his part prayed God to grant the soul of the deceased governor peace.

Nwoye said, “My senior brother and my Leader , Senator Victor Umeh has said it all, I’ll just add few words: We the people of Anambra North Senatorial District which I am representing as well as the Labour Party Caucus and our teeming members mourn the demise of His Excellency Dr. Chinwoke Mbadinuju, Odera.

“He did his best as governor of Anambra State although few persons exploited him. That is part of life and those things are part of the challenges of leadership. He did his best and some of his achievements are still there today.

“Senator Umeh has mentioned the Anambra State University; he also built the Women Development Centre in Awka and a host of other things. May his soul rest in perfect peace.”
