Unizik excels again as alumnus tops in America

Barely a week after Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State moved from 4494th position to 1500th position in the latest world University rankings for 2024, the institution has recorded another international feat.

Recall that the University also came 12th position in Nigeria in the rankings.

The feat triggered jubilation in the university as it was seen by many as a great achievement by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Charles Esimone.

Esimone had set the task for himself on assumption to office in 2019 to bring the University to world reckoning.

On Friday, an alumnus of the university, Lotachukwu Okoye came out on top in the United States of America.

 

He was selected as United States Customs John F Kennedy International Airport employee of the year.

Okoye, according to a statement by Dr Emmanuel Ojukwu, Special Adviser on Public Relations and Special Duties to the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Charles Esimone, was a law graduate of the of the Faculty of Law,Nnamdi Azikiwe University.

Ojukwu said,”Lotachukwu Okoye was selected as US Customs JFK International Airport employee of the year! Thanks to God for the recognition. He is the younger brother of Prof Sylvia Ifemeje. Kudos to the faculty of law and Unizik.

Nnamdi Azikiwe University is located in Awka, the capital of Anambra State.

Established in 1991, the university has multiple campuses in Awka, Nnewi, Agulu and Ifite-Ogwuari in Ayamelum local government area.

As a federal university, it is accredited by the National Universities Commission and named after Nnamdi Azikiwe, a renowned Nigerian statesman and political leader who served as the first President of Nigeria until 1966.

The university has a total of about 57 departments, spread across 14 faculties including the faculties of agriculture, arts, basic medical sciences, biosciences, education, engineering, environmental sciences, health sciences and technology, law, management sciences, medicine, pharmaceutical sciences, physical sciences and social sciences.
