This may be the case with Anambra-born female student, Miss Amaechina Chimbusonma Nwadiuto,who is the overall best in her school in this year’s West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
Miss Amaechina of the Regina Pacis Girls’ Secondary School, Garki, Abuja got A1 in all the nine papers she sat for during the examination.
But in her state, Anambra, her name has not been mentioned in anyway for honour.
Her grandmother, Barr Unoaku Ekwegbalu, retired General Manager of National Light Newspapers, who spoke with our correspondent said the state government had not made any pronouncement about the development.
She said, “Here is my grand daughter, Chimbusonma Amaechina.
She attended Regina Paci Secondary School, Abuja. She is the first to get such result in the school’s 27 years.
“She scored 313 in JAMB.Her mother, Engr Ijeoma Amaechina, is my first daughter .
“Chimbusonma hails from Obeagu , Agukwu, Nri, Anambra State. Her father , Late Dr Chinwuba Amaechina was a Medical Doctor and she (Chimbusonma)
would love to follow in his foot steps. She is 16 years old
Our correspondent gathered that Miss Amaechina, who is the fourth child of the family, was only 6 years old when the father died in 2013.
The RAZOR NEWSPAPER gathered that Miss Amaechina during her preparation for the exams procured WAEC Syllabus and read up some subjects privately, especially the sciences to complement school lessons.
She got: distinctions in Data Processing, Christian Religious Studies, Civic Education, English Language, Further Mathematics, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
The 16 year-old girl, who scored 313 in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, applied to study Medicine at the University of Abuja.
Speaking on the development, her mother, Mrs. Ijeoma Amaechina, said the girl has consistently maintained top position in her class since her primary school days.
The mother said,”She is the fourth child of the family and she likes to sing and make friends. Apart from her natural talents, I can describe her as a go getter. She puts her mind to whatever she wants to achieve. I give God the glory.
Efforts to get the state Commissioner for Education, Ngozi Chuma-Ude to speak on the matter were not fruitful as her telephone continually indicated not available
Students of Anambra State extraction have consistently topped the charts in national and international examinations.
Another female student from Anambra State, Kamsiyochukwu Nkechinyere Umeh, a student of Deeper Life High School, had the highest score of 360 in the 2023 UTME.She gained nationwide recognition for being the top scorer in the 2023 UTME with a cumulative mark of 360.
She also cleared all her papers in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) with 8 A1 and a B2.
