An activist, Chinedu Obigwe, has commended the Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, for his courage in terminating a road contract in the commercial city of Onitsha recently.

Obigwe who is also the National National Coordinator of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Media Warriors Forum said Soludo by that action had once again demonstrated that, “he matches his words with action.”

Obigwe stated these in a statement made available to our correspondent in Awka, the Anambra State capital on Wednesday.

The governor had recently terminated
the Niger Street Onitsha road project awarded to TEC Engineering Nigeria Limited because of alleged negligence and lack of capacity .

Describing Soludo as a blessing to the state, Obigwe said ,”Things that bother him( Soludo) are things that will be beneficial to us and to our state: he is not joking with the state of emergency he declared on Anambra roads.”

“All over the 21 Local Government Areas, his administration is executing road projects in a commendable bid to make the roads motorable for our people.”

He commended Soludo’s strategy of paying surprised inspection visits to road project sites, adding,”he recently paid an unscheduled visit to Niger Street Onitsha road project site and the resultant effect of that visit was the termination of the contract that was given to TEC Engineering Nigeria Limited because of negligence and lack of capacity to deliver the job.”

“He did not only stop at the termination of the Niger Street Onitsha road project contract but also told the contractor to get ready to make refunds of the money that is supposed to be refunded to the State.

“He further promised to re-award the project to another competent contractor that will do a quality job and deliver the project on the agreed time for the project completion

“The Niger Street Onitsha road project is 2. 17km with a 1.1km flood control channel. That road is of great economic benefit to Ndi Anambra because it leads to the biggest market in West Africa and other markets are along that same road.

“Governor Soludo mission is to deliver dividends of good governance to Ndi Anambra and for him, he has targeted time for the accomplishment of that mission.

“He is not ready to tolerate waste of time because for him, every time counts and must be used to actualize meaningful results. Contractors in Anambra now know that it is no longer business as usual.

Stating that Soludo’s action was on the right track, Obigwe said the governor would continue to enjoy the undiluted support of the people of the state.
