Amidst speculation that Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, may defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) to realize his reelection bid in 2025, the party has made it clear that the governor will not receive an automatic ticket if he decides to join the party.

This clarification was made by Mr. Dozie Ikedife (jnr), the South East Organizing Secretary of the APC.

According to Ikedife, while the APC would welcome Soludo into its fold, the party would not guarantee him an automatic ticket.

Instead, Ikedife said the party would be committed to presenting a credible candidate to ensure Anambra State enjoys the dividends of democracy.

Soludo is currently a member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), a party embroiled in a leadership crisis.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recognizes Edozie Njoku as the National Chairman, following a court judgment.

However, Sly Ezeokenwa, aligned with Soludo, was elected National Chairman at the party’s May 30 convention in Awka.

Ikedife expressed confidence that the APC would have a credible candidate for the governorship election.

“APC has several competent members interested in the governorship position, including those who have already indicated interest,” Ikedife maintained.

He criticized the recent local government election in Anambra, describing it as a “show of shame.”

He alleged that the election was marred by violence and irregularities, including the brutalization of a physically challenged councilorship candidate.

The APC had boycotted the LG election, citing concerns about the lack of due process.

Ikedife emphasized that the party’s decision to opt out was vindicated by the election’s outcome.

Sequel to this, the party took its grievances to court, seeking justice for the people of Anambra.

Ikedife stressed that in a democratic setting, people should be allowed to exercise their franchise.

He expressed concern that the Anambra government’s actions undermined this principle, adding,”The APC is committed to ensuring that democracy thrives in Anambra State.

“We will continue to advocate for free, fair, and credible elections.”
