Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has expressed deep sorrow over the recent passing of several prominent Igbo leaders.

Through his lead counsel, Chief Aloy Ejimakor, Kanu conveyed his condolences to the families of: Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, former Governor of Abia State and Minister for Science and Technology, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah,

Kanu, currently detained at the Abuja headquarters of the Department for State Services (DSS), described the loss as a “monumental loss to the Igbo nation.”

He urged Ndigbo to offer prayers to avert further deaths and cautioned against speaking ill of the deceased, citing Igbo traditions.

The statement highlighted Onyeka Onwenu’s close relationship with Kanu, who valued her private advice and remembered her as a firm believer in freedom.

Kanu has been in detention since June 2021, following his rendition from Kenya.
