Lawmaker, Afam Ogene, Empowers Constituents with Relief Materials, Renewable Energy Skills

The Office of Honourable Victor Afam Ogene, representing Ogbaru Federal Constituency, has distributed relief materials to distressed communities in Ogwu Ikpele and Ogwu Aniocha. The materials, provided in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), included food items, clothing, and toiletries.

Ogwu Aniocha, a crisis area, has been without its traditional ruler since his abduction three years ago.

Both Ogwuikpele and Ogwu Aniocha are the only oil-producing communities in Anambra State, contributing 13% oil derivative to the state.

Despite this, they feel neglected by the state government.

Hon. Ogene presented their case to the House of Representatives, leading to NEMA’s intervention. Constituents thanked him for his efforts, calling him a “Godsend.”

In addition to the relief materials, Ogene trained 100 youths in the area in renewable energy skills, focusing on solar energy installation and maintenance, over the weekend.

The three-day training, organized with the Border Communities Agency (BCDA) and MODESCOM Solution Ltd., aims to promote self-dependence and economic growth.

Participants will receive start-up equipment, funding, and logistical support to enable them to earn a living in the renewable energy sector.

The lawnmaker emphasized the need for meaningful engagement among youths, citing high unemployment and economic depression.

Stakeholders had commended Ogene for attracting meaningful opportunities to the area.

Nnamdi Obiekie expressed happiness at learning about renewable energy initiatives and solar system installation and maintenance while James Adione appreciated the opportunity to learn about the economic advantages of renewable energy for self-reliance.

For her part, Miss Fate John was impressed with the exposition on how renewable energy can assist her in earning a living, dispelling the misconception that solar panel installation is only for males.

The empowerment program aims to address unemployment among youths and promote sustainable development in the area.
