Joe Igbokwe, a prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) member, has criticized Nigeria’s economic situation under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Despite being Tinubu’s vocal supporter during the 2023 elections, Igbokwe has grown increasingly critical of the government.

Recently, he expressed concern over a World Bank report ranking Nigeria’s currency as Africa’s weakest ¹.

On his Facebook page, Igbokwe argued that Nigeria’s vast resources and potential contradict this assessment.

He blamed the situation on widespread nepotism and self-serving governance.

Igbokwe questioned how Africa’s most endowed and populous country, with its educated citizens, fertile land, favourable weather, and exceptional talent, could have the continent’s weakest currency .

He lamented that individuals prioritize personal interests over national commitment, leading to widespread disillusionment among Nigerians.

This isn’t Igbokwe’s first criticism of the administration. In September, he urged President Tinubu to address the new electricity tariffs, warning that increased costs could force businesses to shut down.

Notably, President Tinubu has initiated economic reforms, including removing fuel subsidies and unifying foreign exchange rates, aimed at stabilizing the economy.

However, experts emphasize that deeper structural issues, such as improving public expenditure and revenue generation, must be addressed to ensure long-term prosperity .
