Deputy Minority Whip, George Ibezimako Ozodinobi, has warned his colleagues who defected from the Labour Party to the All Progressives Congress (APC) that they will regret their decision in the 2027 general elections.
Ozodinobi, who represents Anambra in the House of Representatives, described the defectors as people without ideology, emphasizing that the Labour Party is not embroiled in any crisis.
The lawmaker’s comments came after four Labour Party lawmakers announced their defection to the APC.
The defectors cited division and leadership crisis within the Labour Party as reasons for their decision.
Ozodinobi, however, maintained that the Labour Party remains united and strong, and that the defectors will soon realize their mistake.
“I am telling those who have defected that they will continue weeping for themselves because where you have crossed over to, you don’t have a future,” he said.
The lawmaker also expressed disappointment that the defectors were swayed by the APC’s promises, which he described as a “rotten carrot.”
He warned that the APC has brought hunger and suffering to the country, and that the defectors will soon regret their decision.
The defection of the four Labour Party lawmakers to the APC has sparked a heated debate in the House of Representatives, with many lawmakers expressing concerns about the implications of the defection on the country’s democracy.
